Voting for the People’s Choice Award will be done on our Facebook Page by the number of “Likes” an image receives by July 31. You may also email your vote to info@artsandheritage.com if you don’t have access to Facebook.

Awards will be posted on Saturday, June 26 following the live streaming video on Facebook. People’s Choice Award will be posted on our Facebook page on Sunday, August 1.

Every year, the Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival holds the Westmoreland Art Nationals, a juried fine art and photography competition, featuring art from all around the country. Artists are permitted to enter as many pieces as they’d like to be considered in both of our exhibits.

The first exhibit will be held in Commissioners Hall at Westmoreland County Community College. The exhibit will run from Saturday, May 22 through Wednesday, June 9, with the Opening Reception on May 22 from 6-8 PM. Awards will be Announced at 7:00 PM on May 22 and posted on our Facebook page. The second exhibit will be held at the Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival on Thursday, July 1 through Sunday, July 4 with the Opening Reception set for Saturday, June 26 from 6-8 PM. Awards will be Announced at 7:00 PM on June 26 and posted on our Facebook page. Both shows are free and open to the public to attend.

A total of $4,800 in prize money will be awarded in the following categories:

  • Graphics
  • Craft
  • Sculpture
  • Photography
  • Mixed Media
  • Digital Medial/Digital Art
  • New Entrant
  • People’s Choice

Winners are selected for each exhibit and are not announced until the night of the Opening Receptions. Both shows provide excellent exposure and serve as wonderful networking opportunities to meet other distinguished artists.

Meet Our 2021 Jurors!

Nick Silvis – Greensburg, Pennsylvania

Nick Silvis is a 3D artist with an interest in large scale sculpture, installation art, and jewelry design. He received his AFA from Westmoreland County Community College and his BFA with a minor in art history from Seton Hill University. Nick enjoys curating and has worked as both Curatorial Assistant and Curator of the Westmoreland Art Nationals from 2016 to 2018. He has also worked as a Museum Assistant at the Lula W. Dorsey Museum at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado, where he installed the “Fred Payne Clatworthy: Documenting the History of the Estes Park YMCA” photograph collection.

Nick is community minded and is a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Society of Sculptors, the Greensburg Art Center, and the Rotary Club of Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He believes that art is healing and is important to include in hospital and therapeutic settings. He is currently working toward a degree in the medical field and hopes to bring his art background to the hospital setting by founding and operating a gallery space within the hospital to benefit both patients and the surrounding community.

Dan Overdorff – Latrobe, Pennsylvania

Born in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, Dan Overdorff is a working artist, curator and teacher dedicated to the progress of fine arts in Southwestern Pennsylvania. He has obtained dual bachelor’s degrees in Landscape Architecture and education from West Virginia University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania respectfully, an associate’s degree in Fine Art from Westmoreland County Community College and holds vocational education certification in the state of Pennsylvania. Overdorff founded and served as the chief curator for the Headkeeper Artist Initiative in Greenburg, PA from 2011 to 2020, providing up and coming artists with a platform to bring their work to a broad audience. He has also served as curator, board member and exhibition juror on varying levels for You Are Here 406 gallery, Seton Hill University, the Westmoreland Art Nationals and The Westmoreland Museum of American Art. Currently, Dan is heavily involved in creating charitable events in Southwestern Pennsylvania while teaching Horticulture and Landscape Design at Forbes Road Career and Technology Center in Monroeville, PA.
